Wife of Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Bao Jiqing while emphasizing the importance of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has said the two countries need to open educational corridor too to push forward socio-economic development and improve the living conditions of their people.

She made these remarks while briefing a delegation of female teachers from different educational institutions, which will pay a two-week visit to China from Monday under Sino-Pak friendly exchange program.

Bao said a good number of Pakistani students were being sent to China every year, hoping on their return home they will contribute to CPEC.

“We need to pass on our brotherly iron-friendship from generations to generations. And they are confident the teachers could be life-changers for the youth,” she added.

She hoped that the visiting teachers will shoulder the responsibility of bringing all the information back to their students and give them consultation as how to select Chinese Universities and apply for scholarships in the coming years.

Jiqing said there are several advantages of going to Chinese universities for Pakistani high-school graduates. These included the advantage of scholarships, friendship, nearby location as neighbours and reasonable tuition and living expenses. She hoped they will act as ambassador of Pakistan to promote further goodwill between the two countries.

The embassy on her personal initiative has already sent around 200 Pakistanis to China, including students, teachers, celebrities and doctors.

The teachers’ representative including the leader of the delegation Itrat Rubab Haider thanked Bao for her keen interest in promoting collaborative partnership particularly at the level of teachers, students and other members of the civil society.

The visit is a part of ongoing efforts to strengthen people-to-people contacts at the students and academia level.

The visit has been arranged by the Chinese embassy to familiarize the teachers with the Chinese education system and explore the educational opportunities for the Pakistani students.

The 30-member delegation will visit various Universities in Urumqi, Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing.
