Zardari’s absence, presence in Punjab to hurt PPP: analysts

Lahore – Our Jiyala Correspondent: At a seminar conducted by a local newspaper regarding the upcoming next phase of local elections in the Punjab, analysts were simultaneously of the view that Asif Ali Zardari should visit the province more frequently and not visit it at all.

“Zardari seems to have abandoned the Punjab and he should visit it more if he wants to revive the party here,” said Dr Mushtaq Hasan of LUMS. “Furthermore, he should not visit the province because he has a very negative image in the province.”

These views were corroborated by the local PPP candidates in the Punjab. “We feel orphaned, because the co-chairperson does not even visit the Punjab to help with our campaigning,” said Saleem Bhatti, a PPP candidate in the local polls, who has also filed an application in the party secretariat to edit out the party co-chairperson’s photos out of the election posters because of their negative effects on voters.

“What they need, really, is a situation that we in quantum physics call Schrodinger’s Cat,” said Prof Pervez Hoodbhoy, “where Zardari somehow is and is not in the Punjab at the same time.”
