SC rejects Punjab Police officers review petition against conviction

Supreme Court (SC) has rejected Punjab Police officers review petition against their conviction for throwing petrol on lawyers rally under the order of Punjab chief minister and upheld the punishment of 19 years in jail awarded by the court.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up Punjab Police review petition for hearing on Friday.

Iftikhar Gillani counsel for police officers told the court that police officers had thrown petrol on lawyers rally under the directives of the then chief minister Punjab. The senior police officers have been let off and junior police officers have been caught in this case.

The court rejected review petition and upheld ATC and Lahore High Court decision in this case.

The court had awarded sentence of 19 years collectively to 4 police inspectors.
