Parliament of Pakistan would get the distinction of being the first Parliament in the region to be solar powered after the completion of the solar power project. The project is being funded by the Chinese government as a gesture of friendship and an acknowledgement of the long standing Pak-China Friendship.

The project was jointly inaugurated by Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping and Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif along with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani during his recent visit to Pakistan.

The work on the project is being carried out at fast pace and is likely to be completed in first week of December 2015. The project management team of the NA secretariat is in close liaison with its Chinese counterpart executing the work and the deficiencies are regularly pointed out which are redressed by the Chinese team.

After commissioning, the project would generate 1 Mega Watt of electricity that would not only substantially reduce the expenditure on utility bills of the parliament building, but also contribute excess-power generated to the requirement of the parliament building to the national grid.
