COAS discusses regional security with Obama’s NSA

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif held a meeting with the acting United States National Security Advisor in Washington and discussed regional security.

Issues pertaining to counter terrorism efforts and measures to choke terrorist financing also came under discussion.

Earlier, General Raheel Sharif addressed the Pakistani community at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington DC on Friday evening.

Prominent community members including professionals, entrepreneurs, academicians, representatives of various community organisations, Americans of Pakistani origin working in the U.S. Government including Administration Congress were present on the occasion.

Addressing the Pakistan community at the Pakistani embassy here, Gen Raheel said that the armed forced have shown unflinching commitment in ensuring peace and security in the country as well as in countering external threats.

He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to friendly relations with its neighbours, and said it would uphold them with dignity and honour. He also noted that both Pakistan and the United States had similar views on countering existing and emerging threats.

Gen Raheel expressed satisfaction at the upward trajectory and growth of Pak-US defence and counter-terrorism cooperation. He underlined that simultaneous with the return of peace and normalcy to the country, the completion of CPEC would herald greater economic prosperity throughout the region.

Pakistani community members lauded the historic role played by Pakistan’s armed forces in defeating the forces of extremism and terrorism.

Earlier, Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani in his welcoming remarks highlighted the vital role played by the armed forces of Pakistan in safeguarding the country from internal and external threats. In his remarks he profusely appreciated the immense sacrifices rendered by Pakistani armed forces personnel in bringing peace and security to the country.
