The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to take action against election staff involved in mismanagement which caused postponement of elections in a number of union councils in both Punjab and Sindh provinces, which were supposed to go to polls on Thursday in the second phase of the local government elections, said the ECP spokesman on Friday.
The commission received 106 complaints of various natures against polling during the local government elections, said the ECP spokesman.
He said that the ECP received 55 complaints from Punjab and 51 from Sindh on various issues including misprinting of election symbols, candidates’ names or against the election staff. Action would be taken against the election staff that failed to adhere to the election code of conduct, he said.
He observed that the elections were held in a free, fair and transparent manner without being influenced by the respective provincial governments. The spokesman said that the ECP would address shortcomings found in the electoral process during the next polls. Elections were held in 12 districts of Punjab and 14 of Sindh in the second phase of the local government elections.
