Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday stated that Zain murder case would remain sub judice until Lahore High Court (LHC) gives a verdict in the matter.

Earlier, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) had taken suo moto notice of the case and summoned record from the anti-terrorism court (ATC). During November 16 hearing, order was reserved in the case.

The ATC had granted bail to Mustafa Kanju, son of former state minister for foreign affairs as witnesses including the petitioner deviated from their statements. The Punjab government has challenged the ATC’s verdict in the high court.

Supreme Court stated today that the case would remain under consideration until the LHC gives order in plea filed by the provincial government. It should be mentioned here Kanju was held by police while a case was moved for killing of a 15-year-old student named Zain.

Earlier on November 16, mother of the slain student appeared before the Supreme Court along with two daughters and said that the family had accepted ATC’s verdict as Allah’s will. She said that the family is not capable of enduring another trial.

However, the three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim had said that the family should not fear anyone. He said that it is upon the state to provide justice to everyone in need. The case would continue and the family would not suffer anymore.
