The Lahore High Court Thursday suspended a notification for 14 percent increase in the price of gas.
The single bench comprising Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf passed the orders on a petition challenging the recent increase in gas prices.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel Shahid Akram arguing before the court submitted that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had increased the prices of gas by 14 percent on the request by gas companies.
He said the OGRA approved the hike in the prices without holding any public hearing which was a mandatory requirement for the purpose. The counsel contended that the step was illegal and unconstitutional. He pleaded the court to set aside notification for 14 percent hike in gas prices.
He also pleaded the court to suspend the notification immediately. The court after hearing initial arguments suspended the notification and also sought replies from the OGRA and other respondents by November 30.
