The joint investigation team constituted by the Sindh government to probe detained Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Dr Asim Hussain on charges of corruption and terror financing has revealed nexus between the arrested politician and banned terror outfit al Qaeda, a private news channel has reported.
Dr Hussain is currently under custody of Rangers for 90 days, which ends later this month. He has reportedly confessed before the JIT that al Qaeda terrorists and those belonging to Lyari gang war were given medical treatments in two of his private hospitals in Karachi. Later, Rangers and police also recovered hospital data about treatment of suspected terrorists.
Sources told the TV channel that Rangers have also prepared a challan against Dr Hussain which will be presented in the court soon.
Similarly, the National Accountability Bureau Sindh has also prepared a case against the PPP leader. Sources said that investigation teams will submit a challan in the court requesting to hand over Dr Asim to the NAB to expand scope of the probe.
The JIT investigating the case comprises police, Rangers personnel and officials of intelligence agencies.
