CS’ embezzlement case: SHC summon IO with record

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday summoned the investigation officer of embezzlement case registered against Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon along with entire record on 15th of December.

The SHC bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto was hearing the petition filed by Memon stating that he was being harassed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding an inquiry initiated against him.

The Sindh chief secretary is currently on bail as the SHC had granted him a pre-arrest bail against the surety bonds of Rs 5,00,000. According to him, the NAB has issued a notice alleging that he was involved in misappropriation of 6 acres land in Scheme 33.

According to the NAB, Memon has concealed material facts and approached the court with unclean hands and there are sufficient and incrimination material against him. The NAB told the court that there were reasonable grounds to believe that accused was guilty and his offence was triable under the NAO, 1999. The Bureau requested the court to dispose of Memon’s petition for not being maintainable.

The NAB is investigating into charges of corruption against the chief secretary and other front men of corruption mafia in Sindh. According to sources, it was decided in the NAB’s meeting held on 14th July in Islamabad to initiate inquiry against the chief secretary.
