Medical Superintendent, Sindh Government Ibrahim Hyderi Hospital, Dr Aftab Ahmed said hundreds of patients were brought to the hospital with complaint of diarrhea disease last week and majority of them were women. He said this was not the season of gastric diseases but poor sanitation and contaminated water were major reasons for prevalence of such diseases in the area.

He said local people complained that contaminated water was being supplied to the area and some water supply lines had developed leaks during the construction work. He said water tanks had also not been cleaned in the area from several years; therefore, many people had fallen sick after consuming the contaminated water.

He said the situation was under control and the general public had been advised to use boiled water to avoid diarrhea. Director Health Karachi, Dr Zafar Ejaz, said the overall situation in Ibrahim Hyderi area had improved in last two days.
