A three-member bench headed by Justice Ameer Hani Muslim of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has cancelled the bail of the accused blackmailing girls on Facebook.
The judge remarked that Facebook has destroyed the Pakistani society. “The girlfriend culture belongs to the West, not Pakistan’s,” he said. “What kind of morality is to upload immoral pictures on media sites?”
Giving arguments, the defense counsel said that the accused Munir and the victim girl were friends. “The accused had made the Facebook account on her choice,” he contended.
The court ordered the police to submit the challan within 14 days, directing the trial court to decide the case in six months.
Meanwhile, religious circles have appreciated the court verdict. “Islam prohibits obscenity, which is being disseminated through websites like Facebook,” he said.
