The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) in collaboration with its 11 partner universities kicked off Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) on Monday with the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan, H. E. Jonovov Sherali inaugurating the week in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Sherali was also the chief guest on this occasion.

RCCI President Mian Humayun Parvez welcomed the Tajik ambassador, dignitaries and students to the chamber.

Addressing on the occasion, the Tajik Ambassador expressed gratitude to the RCCI president for inviting him to the Global Entrepreneurship Week and termed it a great initiative taken by RCCI to promote entrepreneurship skills and knowledge among the youth. He said that his country was keen to invest in energy and transportation sectors that would boost economic ties between the two brotherly countries.

He further added that Pakistan has a great potential especially in the human resource sector and efforts should be made to capitalize this potential. He asked students to develop skills and knowledge and contribute to the prosperity of their country. Central Asia is a big market and young entrepreneurs can benefit from the opportunity and change their fate, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, RCCI President Mian Humayun Parvez said that GEW would help students to focus on becoming job creators instead of job seekers.

“It’s a great opportunity for youth to participate in interactive sessions and training workshops to learn about success stories and innovative ideas to enhance their knowledge about entrepreneurship,” he said.

He said that RCCI had taken the initiative this year to be a part of global entrepreneurship week as a step to facilitate youth, develop stronger private sector, assist the innovators and support the idea of entrepreneurship as a career opportunity.

He called on universities to provide such opportunities so that students can polish their skills and knowledge about entrepreneurship.

Former president SM Naseem termed trade a noble profession as our Holy Prophet (PBUH) also opted for this profession. He said that Islamic history is full of trade and entrepreneurship which shows its importance in our life. “Countries like Japan and Germany developed the SME sector and we can follow this concept. Our youth can play an important role in this,” he said.

Former presidents Syed Asad Mashadi and Manzar Khurshid Sheikh were also present on this occasion. A documentary on RCCI initiatives and activities was also shown to the guests.
