A Spanish national court Judge, Jose de le Mata, has issued warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhayu and seven other current and former officials.

The judge ordered the police and civil guard to notify him if Netanyahu and the six other individuals enter the country, as their actions could see a case against them regarding the Freedom Flotilla attack of 2010 reopened.

The Freedom Flotilla aid ships had been carrying supplies to Gaza in 2010 when the Israeli defence forces opened fire on them. Besides the Israeli PM, the warrants issued were against former defence minister Ehud Barak, former foreign minister Avigdor Leiberman, former minister of strategic affairs Moshe Yaalon, former interior minister Eli Yishai, minister without portfolio Benny Begin and vice admiral Maron Eliezer.

Regarding the warrant, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nachshon has said: “We consider it to be a provocation.”
