- PM Sharif performs ground-breaking of Gojra-Shorkot section of M-4
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Monday said the whole nation should support the national agenda to take the country forward on the path of progress and prosperity and politics of leg pulling or sabotaging development projects needs to stop.
He said that the Motorway is a precious national asset and is playing an important role in the country’s economic development and prosperity and providing connectivity from North to South, which would promote linkages among the people.
“Let us take Pakistan to a bright future and leave politics aside for the future. There is no room for a separate agenda of pulling legs. Those using negative tactics against the government are actually pulling legs of the country,” the PM remarked.
He was addressing after ground-breaking of Gojra-Shorkot section of Faisalabad-Multan Motorway, M-4, at Gojra on Monday. He urged political elements, who are pursuing their personal agenda, to support the government’s national agenda of progress and prosperity.
The PM said the six-lane Lahore-Karachi Motorway is a grand project, which will have great impact on country’s economy. He said work is already in progress on the Karachi-Hyderabad section of this motorway, while the ground-breaking of the Lahore-Multan section will take place soon.
The PM regretted that no one paid attention to the Lahore-Islamabad motorway during the past ten or fifteen years, as it required overlaying, which is now being done at the cost of billions of rupees.
Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said engineers had given an estimate of 21 billion rupees for Gojra-Shorkot section of the M-4, but it will be completed with Rs 17 billion, saving a huge amount of Rs 4 billion which is a proof of good governance and transparency.
He said that the high-quality Faisalabad-Gojra section has already been completed. He said that the work on Shorkot-Khanewal section of M4 will soon start, while the Khanewal-Multan section has also already been completed.
The PM said the government is providing relief to farmers under the Rs 341 billion Kissan Package for the losses they suffered due to the low prices of rice and cotton. Similarly, billions of rupees are being spent on the relief and rehabilitation of quake-hit people.
The PM said that work is ongoing to end load shedding by 2018 once for all. He said the Government has saved Rs 110 billion on three LNG based energy projects.
He said law and order situation has considerably improved in the country, particularly in Karachi, because of effective measures to curb the menace of terrorism. The lights of Karachi have been restored and businessmen are coming to invest in the country.
He said billions of rupees are being spent on Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the National Action Plan and the rehabilitation of TDPs and earthquake affectees.
The PM said that the Gwadar Port is being developed and huge investment is coming from China because of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He said it should not be made controversial.
