A multi-storied building, built on land belonging to Pakistan Railways with apartments and shops, is built in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, approved by City Government, Karachi Building Authority etc during Musharraf and PPP rule and is sold to public without any regulatory authority taking action. There are numerous such commercial projects built on land illegally occupied and irregularly approved by corrupt city government and bureaucracy in Karachi.
It is estimated that prime land belonging to Pakistan Railway worth over Rs2 trillion was illegally allotted in Karachi between 2000 and 2012. All this was done overriding objections of Chief Real Estate Officer of Pakistan. If this is not a crime against state, what else can we call it? I am sure the beneficiaries of this loot and plunder would be facilitated to flee Pakistan and committees formed, but at the end of the day for the sake of political reconciliation only the poor will suffer. In any other country such criminals, irrespective of political clout, would have been hanged.
