After a critical statement was issued by the ISPR, the military’s media wing, the government maybe taking the demand of opposition parties into consideration, and could convene a joint session of the parliament.
Sources told Online that the prime minister sought the opinion of his close aides and members of the parliament on whether the joint session of the parliament should be convened to discuss the statement issued by the ISPR.
“Most of the ministers and parliamentarians had proposed not to convene the joint session as it is likely to create more tension between Islamabad and Rawalpindi,” sources said, adding that the big guns of the ruling party advised the prime minister to take the statement from the ISPR as a common statement.
Sources further said that the statement of Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah and Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani had given confidence to the government that it would have their support in any political crisis. However, the prime minister advised that every matter should be dealt with consciously on such occasions.
The Pak Army on one hand is engaged in operation Zarb-e-Azb and on the other hand is busy in implementing the National Action Plan, and at this time supportive messages need to be given to the Pak Army so that both the operations succeed, advisers told Nawaz Sharif.
“The government has decided not to convene the joint session of the parliament,” sources concluded.
