Citizens plead to become party in petition for superdari of donkey hides

Representing the public at large, two citizens have moved an application to become a party in a petition filed in the Lahore High Court by a Chinese citizen for seeking superdari of donkey hides recovered during a raid conducted by police on September 5, 2015 from Kasur.
Citizens Nisar Ahmad Seikhu and Muhammad Saeed had filed the application through their counsel Advocate Ch Shoaib Saleem which is fixed for hearing before the court of Justice Irum Sajjad Gull on Monday.
They pleaded that that the matter was of public interest as the donkey meat had been provided to the public at large under the garb of illegal business of export of donkey hides.
They said the accused had cheated the public and also violated the law of the land by dealing in illegal business of selling donkey meat and hides had also spoiled the local hotel industry in the country.
Chinese citizen, Ho Longbin had filed a writ petition in the high court for superdari of donkey hides. He submitted that on September 6, Kasur police had raided their tannery in Deen Garh and confiscated 1,015 hides. He said the police had also registered an FIR under Section 270 (an act likely to spread infection dangerous to life), 429 (killing or maiming cattle) and 379 (theft) of the Pakistan Penal Code against three company workers.
He said they had been obtaining animal hides for 20 years from the Kasur market. He said police had wrongfully mentioned in the FIR that the hides belonged to some Pakistani men.
The petitioner said he had approached a judicial magistrate and an additional district and sessions judge for the recovery of the hides but was yet to receive any relief in this regard. He requested the court to issue directions to the police to return the hides to him. He said the lot was worth Rs40 million and would be destroyed if timely action was not taken.
