Two policemen were fatally wounded in an attack by unidentified attackers near Railway Workshop Road on Thursday.
According to Superintendent of Police Malik Muhammad Iqbal, constable Yasin received four bullets and head constable Tanveer three. They were both ferried to the District Headquarters Hospital, where they succumbed to their gunshot wounds.
SP Iqbal said it was not a targeted attack, adding that the cops were on routine patrol and they might have been chasing some criminals.
A heavy contingent of police, headed by CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, SSP Operations Karamat Ullah Malik and SP Rawal Muhammad Iqbal reached the hospital after the attack.
Further investigation is underway.
