PM, Tajik president approve several road projects connecting Pak, Tajikistan

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon approved several road projects connecting Pakistan and Tajikistan during a meeting the Governor’s House in Murree on Friday.

Both the leaders gave in-principle approval to different road projects, Gwadar-Peshawar-Kabul-Kunduz-Dushanbe route, Khunjrab-Kalasu-Murghab route and Chitral-Eshkahem-Dushanbe route, connecting Pakistan and Tajikistan.

Prime Minister Sharif, on the occasion, said that the regional connectivity with Tajikistan and CPEC projects would transform the economic outlook for the entire region and prove to be a game-changer.

The Tajik president appreciated the ongoing infrastructure projects of Pakistan and extended complete support for implementation of the proposed projects. He also held out assurances for completion of the CASA-1000 projects within the stipulated timeframe.

During the meeting, the Tajik president was given a detailed briefing by Highway Authority chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar on the various infrastructure projects showing options of connectivity between Pakistan and Tajikistan. A presentation was also given on the issues relating to regional security to the Tajik president by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
