Ready to mediate between PM Sharif, Imran: President Mamnoon

Amid growing conflict and confrontation between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over alleged rigging in elections, President Mamnoon Hussain has offered to mediate between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan.

While speaking to a TV journalist on Wednesday, President Mamnoon invited the PTI chief to visit him at the President House.

“The president said Imran Khan has never visited me; I invite him to meet me at the President House,” TV journalist Javed Chaudhry quoted him as saying.

“I will also invite the prime minister and am ready to mediate between the two to put an end to politics of confrontation.”

Quoting the president, the TV anchor said President Mamnoon accepted rigging was prevalent in the present electoral system, which needed to be dealt with.

The PTI chairman has repeatedly accused the ruling PML-N of committing electoral fraud in the 2013 general elections, as well as the recently held local government polls.
