Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that his government will have no objection if army is deployed at most sensitive polling stations.
He said this while talking to media men just after performing stone-laying ceremony of Rs 750 million Korangi Crossing Flyover project at the Korangi Crossing on Saturday. He was accompanied by local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah and Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo. Administrator Karachi Sajad Abbasi, Municipal Commissioner Sami Siddiqui and others were also present on the occasion.
“We have also made precautionary measures to maintain law and order during the forth-coming local bodies elections.”
He said the culprits of Daraza Sharif incident had been arrested. “Necessary security arrangements have been made in 15 districts of three divisions for the forthcoming local bodies election. Only two districts, Sanghar and Badin, have been declared most sensitive,” he said.
Shah said necessary measures had been taken to provide fool-proof security in the districts where local bodies elections were being held. “We have no objection if army is deployed at the polling stations in aid to the civil administration,” he said, adding that the plan to deploy police and Rangers had already been worked out.
Replying to a question, the chief minister said that he had talked to Pir Pagra about the action taken against the culprits of Daraza Sharif and also discussed with him the precautionary measures taken to hold safe and sound local bodies elections in 15 districts, particularly in Sanghar. “I am sure Pir Sahab Pagara is satisfied,” he hoped.
The chief minister said his government had already requested the chief justice of Sindh High Court to appoint a judge to conduct judicial inquiry into the tragic incident of Daraza Sharif.
Talking about the Korangi Crossing flyover, the chief minister said it was being built for Rs 750 million. It has two levels and the first level would cost Rs 404.926 million.
The flyover’s length is 408 meters and it would be completed in 12 months. “The local government minister is doing hard work and would personally monitor day to day progress of the project. It would be great facility for the people living in the area and for Korangi Industrial zone,” he said.
