Karachi’s license branches witness 80pc rise in new drivers

A large number of citizens thronged various offices of the Karachi License Department in the city as the new drivers are applying for learner licenses, said DIG License Department Aftab Pathan on Thursday.

Talking to PPI, the DIG said all the branches had been issuing licenses at their maximum capacity. He said the Clifton branch was used to issue only 180 licenses per day, but now it was issuing 850 licenses, Nazimabad branch was now issuing 650 licenses and Korangi branch was issuing up to 300 licenses daily. The Karachi’s license branches had witness 80 percent rise in new drivers, he added.

Aftab said it had been officially decided that at least 100 license centers would be established in Karachi’s different areas soon, and till then they had no other option for giving extra time to new comers. “We are requesting them to re-visit their performance after two months so that they could ensure transparency in issuing licenses to the people.”

The DIG said they had extended office timings and sitting capacity of candidates in all three branches and were working 24/7 in a week. Aftab said if anyone was suffering difficulty in getting his license, he/she could contact their main Clifton branch so that their issues could be resolved on priority basis. He said he had already directed officials concerned to give extra room to female candidates, while offices will remain open on Sunday for female candidates only.
