The students that organised a mixed gender cricket match in the University of Karachi, and were attacked by Jamiat activists, lied about their identities before university officials.
The varsity officials were in a fix to locate the victims that were earlier attacked by activists from the Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) on October 28.
The KU Vice Chancellor’s (VC) fact-finding team, formed to probe into the attack, held a preliminary meeting on Monday to get details of the incident.
Talking to Pakistan Today, KU Student Advisor Prof Dr Ansar Rizvi claimed that students usually disclose fake identities to varsity officials in such cases. “The only purpose of showing fake identities is to avoid having any action taken against them,” Prof Rizvi maintained.
He also confirmed that some students in this particular case have disclosed fake identities, and assured that varsity officials would reach at the students involved in this incident. Giving details of the meeting, he said that Prof Malik sought details of the students injured in the attack, and sought permission to investigate them personally.
“Prof Malik is a psychologist, and she can easily dig out the truth, especially from the girls if they were forced to change their statements,” Prof Rizvi said, adding that “It has been decided that they would meet again after Prof Malik investigates the victims personally.”
The meeting was told that the clinic’s entry register was forcefully taken by a student organisation from the clinic staff, after the attack happened. KU Clinic Incharge Dr Nadeem said that he was not present in the clinic on the day of attack, and requested that Dr Muhammad Hassan Auj be included in his place as he witnessed the entire incident personally.
Dr Nadeem complained that student organisations manhandled clinic staffers, and demanded security for the staff of the varsity clinic, especially in emergency cases.
The meeting, which was chaired by Prof Dr Anila Amber Malik, was attended by Security Advisor Muhammad Zubair, Student Advisor Dr Ansar Rizvi and KU Clinic Incharge Dr Nadeem.
