SC summons witnesses in Zain murder case on November 16

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday summoned the bereaved family and prosecutor’s witnesses on November 16 in Zain murder case.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim was hearing the suo moto notice taken by chief justice of Pakistan over Zain Murder case during which Additional Advocate General Punjab Razzaq Mirza stated that the provincial government would file a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) against suspects’ acquittal.

The prosecutor Punjab told the court that witnesses had changed their statements by grabbing money from the criminals. He said that the eyewitnesses were forced to put thumb impression on a blank page.

The apex court further asked if  there is any other evidence using which the court can grant punishment to the suspects? The prosecutor argued that the court has not properly analyzed the investigation officer’s report.

Meanwhile, the claimant stated that he had also filed pleas, urging the officers to record the statements as early as possible on which the bench asked that why the policemen were unaware of these petitions.

The court has adjourned the hearing till November 16 by directing the Inspector General (IG) Punjab to ensure foolproof security of the witnesses.
