The hue and cry of the kiosks owners, being forcibly removed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad finally reached the corridors of power.

Dr Ibadullah and others moved a call of attention notice in the National Assembly on Tuesday regarding the cancellation of allotments of Cabins by the CDA in Islamabad allotted during the years 1967-2000.

The deputy speaker who was chairing the session ordered a constitution of ten-member special committee of the House with the direction to look into the matter and submit compliance report within two weeks. The chair also directed for restoration of kiosks holding legal lease.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that efforts are underway to review and resolve the issue of kiosk removal in the Federal Capital. He said a committee has been constituted for this purpose which will report within thirty days.

Giving details, Sheikh Aftab said temporary allotments of 485 cabins have been made in 1986. However, he said the owners expanded their kiosks right and left. Adding that some of them had even encroached more land than allowed. He said contracts of all kiosks were revoked in 2013 and they were demolished after giving necessary notices.
