The Lahore High Court on Monday dismissed the application for withdrawal of a petition challenging the returning officer’s decision of accepting the nomination papers of PML-N leader Khawaja Ahmad Hassan for Lahore’s UC-107 chairman slot.

The single bench of Justice Shahid Karim heard the civil miscellaneous application filed by petitioner Aziz Masood.

Earlier, the petitioner submitted that the court had reserved the verdict on his petition against the acceptance of Khawaja Hassan’s nomination papers after hearing the arguments of all parties on November 5. He requested the court to allow him to withdraw the petition as he was not a voter of UC-107.

However, the petitioner’s counsel Shiraz Zaka submitted that his client filed the application for withdrawal without taking him into confidence. He said that the petition could not be withdrawn in the light of the apex court’s judgments.

But, Hassan’s counsel Rai Shahid submitted the petitioner had the right to withdraw his petition, therefore, the court should accept the application. The court after hearing the arguments reserved the verdict on application for a few hours but later dismissed it.
