775,000 gas connections provided in two years, Senate told
Opp stages walkout for ignoring it in LNG deal with Qatar
The Senate was informed on Tuesday that over 775,000 gas connections had been given to new domestic consumers over the last two years.
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal told the House during question hour that Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited was giving 300,000 connections annually while Sui Southern Gas Company Limited was giving 96,000 every year.
He told that the government is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to enhance production of oil and gas in the country. He said that a total of 27 discoveries were made against 169 licenses issued to different exploration companies during the last year.
Kamal further said that an oil and gas conference was also being organized this month to discuss matters pertaining to this important sector. He said that all the stakeholders including the provinces had been invited to attend this moot.
He also informed the Senate that oil and gas exploration had been expedited in different areas of Balochistan including Sui and Dera Bugti following the improvement of law and order situation.
Opposition members staged a walkout from the senate after accusing the government of ignoring the opposition in LNG deal with Qatar.
The members also held discussion on the death and destruction caused by the recent earthquake.
They said that the government should work out a comprehensive strategy to cope with future disasters.
They emphasised the need for implementing the building code of Pakistan Engineering Council in letter and spirit besides carrying out a detailed survey of all the important buildings.
They also demanded considerable increase in compensation announced for damaged houses.
