Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi has directed National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite construction work on Hazara Motorway and resolve the problems of affected people.
He issued these directives during a briefing on Hazara Motorway.
General Manager Hazara Motorway (HM) Shahid Ehsan briefed the Deputy Speaker on progress of project and said the project had been divided into three sections for early completion, adding that interchanges were being constructed at various points of the Motorway for the benefit of the locals. The project would be completed on time, he added.
Director Abbottabad University (AU) Abdul Ghafoor Baig told the Deputy Speaker that a vast portion of the university’s land had been affected with the construction of the Motorway.
Abbasi said the AU was a quality educational institution. He directed NHA to ensure that only a small portion of land of the university should come under Hazara Motorway, said a press release. He assured that he will talk to federal government for allocating funds to AU.
Later, the owners, whose lands have been acquired for construction of HM, complained that they are being paid less for their lands as compared to prevalent market prices.
The Deputy Speaker constituted a committee of notables belonging to the area, with mandate to recommend suitable prices of the acquired lands within a week.
He said the Motorway was an important project, having potential of providing cheap travelling facilities to not only the people of Hazara division but also to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.HM, he said, would create new employment opportunities, enhance trade activities and surely usher a new era of progress and prosperity.
