Present government has decided to amend Local Government Act to transform city councils into a basic welfare, administrative and development unit of the present system, said Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan.
Addressing a function to welcome 14 newly elected chairmen of city councils of his provincial constituency PP-70 on late Sunday night, Khan said that chief minister Punjab had formed a legal committee to submit recommendation which would be incorporated into the amended law.
He said that the newly elected chairmen should remain vigilant of the persons who were vying to exploit their authority. He said the chief minister would seek suggestions from them and in the light of their recommendations, the decision for the top slots of Zila council and municipal corporation would be made.
The function was also addressed by the newly elected chairmen of city councils who expressed full confidence in the leadership of Rana Sanaullah Khan.
