Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday stated that the government is enslaving the people of Pakistan by borrowing money from foreign countries.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, Imran Khan lashed out at the government saying that they were taking loans but the people were being enslaved.
“Countries giving loans can control us, they can make you do anything,” he added.
Khan also read out Allama Iqbal’s famous poetry: “Ay Taai’r-e-Laa hooti uss rizq se maut achi… Jis rizq se aati ho parwaz mein kotaahi” (O thereal bird! It is better to starve to death, than to live on a prey that clogs thy wings in flight).
He said this message of Allama Iqbal is for all Pakistanis. Pakistan was created on Iqbal’s vision to stand on its feet, not to take loans.
Khan’s remarks came few days after the government plans to introduce additional tax measures of around Rs 40 billion in a couple of weeks to meet the fiscal deficit limit and carry on with the IMF programme amid rising circular debt and revenue shortfall.
