Ameer Jamaat- e-slami (JI) Sirajul Haq has said that the government decision to impose new taxes of Rs 40 billion on the poor for seeking more loans from International Monetary Fund (IMF) is cruel and anti-poor step.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he made it clear that the government’s ant- poor decision of imposition of new taxes is unacceptable and added that the JI totally rejected this act of post budget and imposition of taxes.
Answering a question, he said that the JI would raise this alarming issue in the National Assembly and the Senate.
While highlighting the miseries of earthquake affectees, Haq stated that almost two weeks have passed to this sorrowful incident but both the central and provincial governments have failed to complete the proper survey of human lives and losses in this incident. He said the JI has announced Rs 200 million for the earthquake affectees and so far spent Rs 120 million on them.
It is mentioned here that chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s mission has stated that Pakistan will have to take around Rs40 billion in additional tax measures in the next two weeks. His statement came as the government contemplates increasing duties on cigarettes and luxury consumer items to meet the shortfall in revenue collection targets to secure the next $502 million tranche of the $6.2 billion loan programme.
