The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the sports ministry and Port Qasim Authority to file comments on a petition filed by contract hockey players seeking regularisation in the department.
A division bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard the petition filed by hockey players Abdul Asim Khan, Abdul Haseem Khan, Ali Azlan Khan, and Imran Khan who are playing for Port Qasim Authority on contract basis.
They submitted that they were appointed on 26th of May 2010 in BPS-15 and BPS-17 on contract for two years and were told that they would be regularised after two years. “But after even five years, we are still playing on contact basis,” the players submitted.
The petitioners stated that that the Port Qasim Authority could terminate them anytime. Citing the sports ministry and Port Qasim Authority as respondents, the petitioner prayed the court to direct the respondents not to terminate them from the department and issue direction for their regularisation.
After the initial hearing, the SHC directed the department not to terminate the players till 12th of November and directed the deputy attorney general and respondents to file comments during the next hearing.
