Protest called against possible demolition of graveyards, mosques for Metro Train

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), All-Party Shia Federation and traders’ bodies have called a protest demonstration on Monday against a possible demolition of graveyards, mosques and mausoleums falling on the route of Orange Line Metro Train.

In a joint statement released on Friday, JI Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, All-Party Shia Federation leader Noor Bahar Shah and Anjuman Tajran Macleod Road said the government should refrain from demolishing mosques, graveyards and mausoleums falling on the route of Orange Line Metro Train; otherwise they would be staging a protest in front of the Punjab Assembly against the government’s action.

They remarked that the proposed demolition of Mominpura graveyard, where national heroes, Shia scholars and many notable leaders had been laid to rest, as well as shops around the graveyard would hurt the sentiments of the people besides triggering unemployment.

They said the rulers should provide electricity, gas and clean drinking water to the masses instead of executing the project.
