Polling for the local government (LG) elections in four districts of Sindh and for 85 union council seats in Punjab, which was suspended due to clashes between rival groups and misprinting of ballot papers during the first phase on October 31, will be held on November 14.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), voting will start at 7:30 in the morning and continue till 5:30 in the evening.
In Sindh, the paramilitary Rangers will be deployed to secure sensitive polling stations.
PUNJAB SEEKS ARMY DEPLOYMENT FOR SECOND PHASE OF LG ELECTIONS:
The Punjab government has, through a letter to the ECP, sought army deployment for the second phase of LG elections, due on November 19.
The ECP secretary, on the other hand, said that deputing soldiers at every polling station was difficult.
Reportedly, a total of 25 million ballot papers will be printed for 12 Punjab districts – Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, MB Din, Attock and Jhelum – while their distribution will begin on November 12.
The ECP will hold a crucial session over the second phase of LB polls on November 13. The Punjab government has announced public holiday on the occasion of the second phase of LG elections. District coordination officers (DCOs) concerned have been informed about the holiday.
