Alcohol, drugs, dancing: 35 arrested for holding ‘loud party’ near Makkah

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested 35 people for taking part in a ‘loud’ party near Makkah.

The party-goers, 25 men and 10 women, were celebrating the birthday of a friend in a recreational area close to the city of Makkah when members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice raided the party.

The ‘Religious Police’, while conducting the raid, seized large quantities of alcohol and drugs at the party and arrested 35 people, all of Asian decent.

According to a report, the participants were dancing to loud music and consuming drinks and drugs when when the arrests were made. The party-goers could be severely punished for bringing hard liquor and drugs to the party.

Following the arrests, one of the 35 admitted the party was organised to celebrate the birthday of one of the participants.
