A Punjab Police ASI on Thursday committed suicide during duty hours due to unknown reasons as police claimed that he was suffering from psychiatric problems.
ASI Zubair was appointed at the Police Facilitation Center Liberty and was a resident of Faisalabad. He is survived by a widow and two children. Police have sent the dead body to morgue for autopsy.
According to police, the victim was on duty when he suddenly took out his weapon and shot himself. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.
Hearing the news, a large contingent of police reached the spot. They collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and took the statements of the eye-witnesses.
Superintendent Police (SP) Capt. (r) Mustansir Feroz said that according to initial investigation the victim was suffering from psychiatric problems. He said that the victim was appointed to second shift at the Police Facilitation Center and his track record was good. He said that they were investigating the matter further. He further said that they had informed the family of the deceased ASI.
It is the second incident in recent days of suicide of a police official on duty. On October 17, ASI Shaukat Azeem appointed at Investigation Wing of Defence Police Station committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. The family of the deceased had alleged that he committed suicide because he was depressed due to ill-treatment of his seniors.
Till the filing of the report ASI Zubair’s family did not confirm to media whether the ASI was suffering from any problem or if there was any other reason for the suicide.
