The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the interior ministry, provincial and federal election commissions, Sindh DG Rangers, police and home secretary to file comments on a petition filed by the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) seeking presence of army during local government elections in the province.
PML-N Sindh chapter president Ismail Rahu moved the court submitting that he wrote a letter to the provincial election commissioner requesting him to deploy military during local government polls and take security measures. The provincial election commissioner did not take considerations seriously which caused Khairpur incident claiming several human lives, Rahu stated.
He alleged that the provincial election commissioner was misusing his powers in appointing polling staff.
After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to the attorney general and respondents to file their comments on the next hearing.
