The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday allowed to issue five mobile phone SIMs and three internet SIMs on a single national identity card (CNIC).

A private mobile phone company submitted a plea, requesting to permit internet SIMs on CNICs. During the hearing, the organization’s counsel argued that they had purchased 4G license at a cost of $560 million dollars but the users are restricted to using only five SIMs on one CNIC.

He said that the authorities should take steps to promote 4G technology in the country by letting the masses have another three internet SIMs on the same identity card.

The court accepted the plea and stated that the mobile phone companies can contact Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in the matter.
