President for coordinated policy to address population growth

President Mamnoon Hussain has stressed the need for balancing population and resources for the development of the country.

This was while addressing the Population Summit 2015 in Islamabad on Thursday.

The President said Pakistan is the sixth largest populated country and that a coordinated policy needed to address the issue of increasing population growth. He called upon the Ulema and civil society to play their due role in creating awareness among the people on the issue. He said national consensus on controlling the rapid population growth is a good sign.

He suggested formation of a Task Force, which would review the matters relating to population every six months.

Hussain said exact statistics of population is imperative for achieving the development targets. He added for this purpose the Government will hold population census next year.

The President said the Government has initiated numerous development projects. He said China Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC) is very important and under the CPEC work on projects like Gwadar port, Gwadar airport, motorways, and energy projects is being done. He said the Government is determined to complete these projects despite resource constraints.
