Tom Chilton says the prospect of beating double WTCC champion José María López* provides him with the ultimate motivation every time he takes to the track in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

López made it back-to-back world titles with his 20th WTCC career victory in Thailand on Sunday. Chilton, who claimed Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy honours in race two, said the Argentine remains the ultimate benchmark. “It shows the competition in the championship that we have to beat,” said Chilton of López’s latest achievement. “He’s always the fastest every time he goes out and it’s always good to race with him.” Following his puncture-induced retirement from race one, Chilton (pictured right with López) was classified fourth in race two having held a podium spot for a time in his ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1. *All results remain subject to official FIA confirmation
