At least 14 people in western India were reported as having been left blind in one eye after incorrect surgeries officials and doctors reported on Thursday.
In what has been termed the latest example of poor medical care in the country, authorities in the state of Maharashtra blamed hospital staff for failing to sterilise equipment properly, thus cuasing the blindness by what is generally considered to be a low-risk operation.
Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant called it sheer negligence and said that 3 doctors had been suspended.
