IESCO launches drive against electricity thieves, catches 57 red handed

IESCO has launched a full-fledged crackdown against the power thieves in order to stop electricity thefts. A total of 57 power thieves were handcuffed in five circles of IESCO during the month of October who were involved in meter tempering and direct electricity theft from main lines.

According to details the department has filed FIRs against these thieves at respective Police stations. The electricity thieves were caught from the different localities in order to bring an end to the menace as well as overcome the line losses.

A senior official said we are taking action without any discrimination and no leniency would be shown to any involved in power theft.

Common people on the on the other hand say that no action has ever been taken against the big fish who are causing losses of tens of thousands of rupees yearly and only poor people are made the scrape goats. They said most of the electricity is stolen by industrialists, shopkeepers, hotels, cinemas, petrol pumps and CNG pumps, while checking teams focus the residential areas and common people.
