In a stunning move on Tuesday, Pakistan cricket team’s all-rounder Shoaib Malik has announced his intention to retire from test cricket.
The cricketer made the announcement after the 3rd day’s play of the third test match against England in Sharjah.
“I want to give younger cricketers a chance to play,” Malik said when he announced his decision, adding that it was “time to move on”.
The cricketer, who hails from Sialkot, Punjab, made his test debut in 2001’s Pakistan Vs Bangladesh match. Malik’s announcement came as a surprise, considering it was made only three matches after his 5 year exile from the Test team ended. Malik’s dramatic return to the fray came in the first Test at Abu Dhabi last month. Called in as a late replacement for the injured Azhar Ali, he made a career-best 245 in his first appearance since the Edgbaston Test against England in 2010.
