RIU in doldrums for non-release of funds

Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) could not be completed due to delay in release of funds by Punjab Govt creating risk of increase in total expenses.

According to informed sources Punjab Govt had approved Rs 3.5 Billion funds for RIU and transplant after the Institute of Cardiology.

Chief Minister Punjab had laid its foundation stone in August 2012. On completion, the RIU would have provided modern best treatment and kidney transplant facilities and would consist of 260 beds. The sources said only Rs 350 Million funds had been released by the Govt in the past three year’s period due to which the construction of Hospital is moving at slow pace.

It is also feared that delay in the release of funds will escalate the construction cost.

On the other hand people have criticized the unnecessary delay in the construction saying that they had been hoping to get these medical facilities at their door step but the Punjab finance authorities are delaying the release of funds for unknown reasons even though the project was approved by the CM.

They said that metro bus project has been completed within one year by utilizing Rs 44 Billion and questioned why the projects relating to health of the citizen remains in doldrums. In this connection they also pointed out the Children Hospital, which has been abandoned after spending billions of rupees.

The Citizens appealed to the CM to order the release of funds as soon as possible so that construction of Hospital may proceed apace.
