Nisar directs Interior Ministry to formulate SOP regarding deportees

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday chaired a high-level meeting to discuss issues relating to deportees, progress on Natoanl Action Plan, registration of International NGOs, deletion of names from Exit Control List (ECL) and  revalidation of arms licenses.

The meeting held at Interior Ministry was attended by DG FIA, DG Immigration & Passports, Chairman NADRA, Chief Commissioner ICT, SSP Islamabad and other senior officials besides senior officers of Interior Ministry.

The meeting also discussed host of other issues including anti-adulteration campaign of ICT administration, security survey in the federal capital and progress made by FIA against CDA officials involved in facilitating establishment of illegal and Katchi abadis in the federal capital.

The Interior Minister directed the Interior Ministry to formulate Standered Operating Proceduers (SOPs) regarding the deportees who are deported to Pakistan by various countries across the world.

He directed Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to accept any deportee unless his/her nationality is verified and complete information is provided about the reasons leading to his/her deportation.

A high level committee has been constituted in the Interior Ministry to formulate SOPs and also to coordinate with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistani Missions abroad.

The interior minister directed to ensure that the nationality of deportees is verified before issuing temporary travel documents to any deportee by any Pakistani Mission abroad. Nisar also directed that a comprehensive policy paper regarding deportees be sent to all mission abroad within one week.

The meeting was informed that Usman Ghani who was recently deported from Italy has no connection either with APS Peshawar terrorist incident or any other terrorist activity.

Nisar also ordered rationalization in the Interior Ministry which will carried out keeping in view the workload in various offices so as to expedite official work of the ministry and also to put in place a system of accountability in the Ministry.

The meeting was also briefed about the progress on National Action Plan.

It was informed that as a result of efforts of the Interior Minister, Ulemas and Government have agreed upon Registration Forms for the Madaris.

Nisar observed that we greatly appreciate the contributions and cooperation of the Ulemas towards ensuring security and also evolving counter narrative against terrorists.

The minister directed Interior Ministry officials to complete the process of merging National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) into NACTA within one week.

The Meeting also reviewed progress on registration of INGOs under the new policy.

Progress made on deletion of names from ECL was also discussed.

The Interior Minister observed that under the new ECL policy, it will not be possible in future to include any name into ECL without solid grounds.

He said that putting names into ECL without any solid reasons or for an indefinite period is contrary to justice.

The Minister said that instead of covering any investigating or accountability agency, the new ECL policy has been made to uphold the sanctity of constitution, law and fundamental rights.
