The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday adjourned the hearing of a plea filed against the detention of former federal minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Dr Asim Hussain under the Terrorism Act.
Dr Asim’s wife Dr Zarin filed a petition in SHC through Abid Zuberi advocate, challenging her husband’s confinement under the Terrorism Act. The court deferred the case indefinitely due to absence of Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.
According to sources, Additional Attorney General Salman Talibuddin was all set to argue on behalf of the federal government.
Earlier, Dr Zarina Hussain pleaded before SHC to not move her husband from the hospital until he was fully fit, but the plea was rejected by the authorities. Hussain had suffered a minor heart attack after which doctors reported that the former minister was also suffering from diabetes and kidney problem. Thus, there was some difficulty in conducting his angiography.
Dr Asim was nabbed on August 26 from the office of Sindh Higher Education Commission where he was presiding over a meeting of the provincial body.
Sources said that the Rangers personnel stated that they had authentic information regarding Dr Asim s involvement in terrorism related activities as well as fraud cases.
