At least five people were killed and 12 others wounded in a collision between a passenger van and a car in Shahdara area on Tuesday.
Police officials said the accident took place on Kala Khattai Road where a speeding passenger van collided head-on with a car, claiming lives of five people, three motorists and two van passengers.
Rescuers rushed and ferried the 12 wounded to the Mayo Hospital, where five of them were stated to be in critical condition. Doctors feared the death toll might increase. A case has been registered and police are investigating.
