Filtration plants in Chaklala Cantt pose critical risk of water-borne diseases

The non-maintenance of 45 water filtration plants is posing critical risk of water-borne diseases like hepatitis, thanks to water supply department of Chaklala Cantonment.

It is the responsibility of the Cantonment Board to change the chlorine, filter media, UV lamp and iron’s container four times in a year but according to reports, the officials concerned focus on the maintenance of water filtration plants located in VIP areas.

The Cantonment Board had set up 33 water filtration plants to provide the facility of pure water to residents while 16 filtration Plants had been set up in Chaklala Board, which include Tench Bhatta, Allama Iqbal Colony, Baraf Khana Chowk, Azizabad, Mughalabad, Peshawar road, Police station, Gawalmandi, Nasirababd, Akbar Line, Cantt General Hospital, Ashiyana Chowk, Kanak Mandi, Race Course Ground, Children Park, British Ground, Quaid-e- Azam Colony, Hafizabad, Lalkurti, Dheri Hassanabad, Lalazar, Chaklala Scheme, Harley Street and Tahli Mohri.

According to locals, the cartage of these water filtration plants are required to be changed after every three months, but against the standing orders, the Cantonment Board administration is totally neglecting the maintenance of filtration plants despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of rupees are allocated in yearly budget for the purpose.

The locals complained that Cantt Board changes the cartages of VIP areas, leaving the majority of population in densely-populated areas at the risk of water-borne diseases.
According to medical experts if the iron containers are not changed after the given time, the rusted water is supplied to the residents which causes hepatitis and different stomach diseases
