ATC issues arrest warrants of 17 involved in PTV, Parliament attacks

Anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday ordered authorities to arrest and produce all 17 accused in Parliament and state-run television attacks case after counsel maintained absence in hearing.

ATC judge Syed Kausar Abbas was hearing Parliament and Pakistan Television (PTV) attacks case. As many as 86 workers belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) appeared before the court.

During the hearing the court expressed resentment over the remaining workers’ absence and issued arrest warrants against 17 accused. The 86 workers were released on bail earlier. The court adjourned the hearing until 1 December.

This is not the first hearing when the counsel failed to appear for hearing. Challan in the case has also not been filed yet.

At least 103 persons have been nominated in the case. The accused were arrested damaging state property during PTI-led sit-in protest in federal capital’s D-Chowk. The case cites anti-terrorism sections along with others.

The protest that lasted for more than 100 days had gripped the country with its flamboyance and sound systems. The protesters danced till late in the nights on DJ Butt s beats who later filed a lawsuit against the party for not paying his due bills.
